The Turtle's Nest is Run on 100% Renewable Energy
As of September 2021, The Turtles' Nest, Turtle Fur's headquarters, is now 100% run on renewable sources. Turtle Fur's power is supplied locally by Morrisville Water & Light (MW&L). According to the VT Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA), 59% of MW&L's power comes from renewable sources. Turtle Fur has independently purchased Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) through an authorized reseller to source the additional 41% needed to offset the difference. That is all in keeping with Turtle Fur's mission statement that defines its commitment to operating all facets of its business as sustainably as possible.
“We are excited about being able to run on 100% renewable energy at our offices and warehouse. While we are constantly looking to reduce our energy consumption, we are still reliant on electricity to design, produce, and ship our products. If we can ensure that the electricity we are using is clean and renewable, that helps protect our planet and the places in which we play.” – Colin Giblin, Vice President
Since 2007, Turtle Fur’s Green Team has been making their workplace and all facets of the business more sustainable. In recent years, Turtle Fur has increased its offering of sustainable fabrics and recycled knit hats, introduced 100% carbon offsetting for shipping of eCommerce orders, significantly reduced product packaging, and much more. The company has also made strides in understanding their overall impact through measuring their Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions for 2019 and 2020. By 2022 the plan is to have their Scope 3 emissions measured.
